Level 1

KWL (Levels 1 and 3)

Add your thoughts using the KWL approach. Thinking about Game Mechanics, Games-Based Learning or gamification.....

K = What do you know?
I know that Game based learning is having fun which helps learning. Games with technology is a big thing to integrate in classes.
W = What do you want to learn?
I would love to learn how to integrate these fun games into my lessons that are meaningful and less consuming.
L = What have you learned? (we'll do this last one later)
I have learnt that having fun is a great way to motivate children and that's what children would like teachers to be. however I feel that it is lost and having fun is done less because of all things we need to get through.
Now that I am at the end of level 3 the 'K' and 'W' has not changed but what I have leant now is that any type of games that are appropriate to the student is another strategy for them to develop their learning. As an educator I need to be aware of the effectives it can have on the student's and their learning. Making it motivating, allowing them to succeed and then to feel successful is important.

Reflection

I enjoyed completing this level. I enjoyed reading Marc Prensky 12 elements which was great here the word fun can be integrated into the classroom with games. Also watching video on Nicole Luzzaro and that there are 4 elements of emotions of fun that we go through.

Level 2

Where do I start?

Identify some learning outcomes that you will be visiting with your students in upcoming lessons. Note down here some ways they might benefit from gamification.
Some Learning Outcomes that I will be visiting is In English:
* The students will communicates with other students informal while interacting with others. I have a literacy and maths basket where students are allowed to choose an activity and play game. this is during guided reading activities.
Other Learning Outcomes:
*Students will also develop other skills while interacting or playing the game is reading skills or simple sight words that they know.

Observe and reflect
After playing a game what are your personal thoughts about the design and elements involved and how any of these could help you in thinking about doing the same in a learning activity?
I am an Infants Teacher and having games on the smart board the students enjoy it. With so many games on line and are free and enjoyable are important in my classroom.
The Game is called: Kids Maths Games on line.
My personal thoughts on this game is that it is appropriate for infants. Its colourful and fun. the good thing about this is how I use it during my lessons.
For example, once the kindergarten settle in and we began maths, we looked at whole numbers and simple counting. There was a game called 'Interactive counting game'. they needed to join the dots from 1 and they had a certain amount of time. this was a great indicate as well as it showed me who knew their numbers. so spontaneous I had some observation on numbers. they loved it. they all want to goes even if they didn't know the numbers. It was fun.
Other ways I also used this game:
I used it for a warm up, also for students to visual the concept and seeing the concept's, e.g addition makes a different. I can make it harder to challenge my students but I can als show simpe examples for the other students that need the extral leraning. The whole designs and element of this game is that it can be also used in English and how it can be incorporate it into your learning activities ether as a beginning, explaining different topics , playing and allowing students to have a go and then reflecting on it.

Premiers Reading Challenge Reflection

Write your thoughts here and or print a rubric and circle the appropriate areas you notice as you review the rules of this gamified experience. (feel free to scan or photograph and upload your rubic to this page.)

Premiers Reading Challenge Reflection:
My thoughts on this Activity is that it does focus on a skill which is reading. the great things when completing the rubrics it may me aware of how it looks at challenging the students with a variety of texts. it looks at the emotion of the reader. They do have certificates and a reward system which allows the reader to feel that they have accomplish their goal.

Zombie Learning Reflection
Write your thoughts here and or print a rubric and circle the appropriate areas you notice as you review the rules of this gamified experience.
(feel free to scan or photograph and upload your rubic to this page.)

My thoughts on this activity is that it does focus on a high stage, which is ok but I feel as an infant teachers we are limited to this types of game due to the language side of things. however it is great for the high stages that show the higher thinking of skills, experience's and the language that students take in. there is a constancies of interaction with peers, the progress of the students and the whole learning experiences.

You Try/ A final reflection

Add your finished plan here as an upload file or as text you have cut and pasted into the wiki. We would love to give you feedback to help you get started. (remember it does not need be perfect, it is a first attempt). Alternatively it can be emailed to us instead.

Lesson Outcomes:

Please note this Game that I have created is manly for infants. I am K-2 trained.
The Name of the Game: Sight Ladder Bingo:
Students receive a ladder with a variety of words. Also have some counters. Teacher says a word and they will need to find It on their ladder. Once the ladder is covered with counters they need to say bingo first in order to receive a star to build up their 10 starts. I created this ladder because it was different from the traditional square bingo. students have said that it's like climbing the ladder. I have three stages:
Stage one. Not only do I say the words but it is also displayed for them. simple sight words
Stage Two: No words displayed they will needed to know it as they find it on their ladder. A bit harder sight words
Stage three: The words then become harder.
This game of course is linked to their abilities'. And I would introduce this game in term 2 for Kindergarten as Term 1 is a settling period.

Outcome: ENe-5A
*Demonstrates developing skills in using letters, simple sound blends and some sight words to represent known words when spelling.

Description of your Audience:

Age: 5 to 6 years olds (Kindergarten)
Likes: Hands on games, mobile, Lego, imaginative play, play Dough cars and trucks, art and craft activities.
Dislikes: lots of writing and working with no free time to play
Motivations: Rewards Chart: students receive and need to earn a stars to get the prizes. they need 10 free stars to receive the prize. they get to choose they prize in the prize box.

Time Constraints:

Hours: 20mins 4 days a week rotation activity
Lessons: 4
Weeks: 1-10
Terms: 1-4
The constraint here is that at times guided reading does not get completed those 4 days due to other interruptions so some students do not have a go at the activity. I try to aim to do guided reading in those times because students love this game. it is also alternate between reading I week and then I do this game the other week.

Game Elements:

Game Dynamics - Teacher explains the game. the student need to say bingo once all the words are covered first in order to receive a star. in kindergarten they have a goal of 10 stars in order to have prize. They ladders are swap around so they all get a chance to say bingo but in order to move on to the next stage they will need to identify the words without the display word. This was explained to the students and they want to go home and practises more so that the ladder can get a bit harder and then harder. We also worked in small groups. I also monitor the words they are having difficulty and the words that are too easier so this is where I cater to their abilities and I change the words around.

Game Mechanics: Students learn to identify sight words and need to listen. Also I give the opportunity for the stduents to say the words instead of playing. They then became the teacher or team leader. They want to win so they can receive a star and be the teacher to read the sight words. The Challenge I feel here is that the identification of sight words but making it fun. In ordered to became the team leader they will need to know their sight words with same help of course but they like to move on to the harder words. also that they get that star which means a lot to them.

Game Components: students feel achievement when they say the word bingo. there faces light up. there are the 3 levels, also been the team leader and receiving the reward at the end.

Fun Check:

Easy Fun- It is different having a ladder for bingo and having the words as a display as well makes it easy to find the word.It is interactive and stimulating for the students.
Hard Fun- The words get harder and display words go.
Serious Fun- You can not move on if you do not Know your sight words.
Social Fun - All students participate and so do I. They choose their ladder as well.

A Final Reflection:

As an educator I found this course to be useful for the middle infants and up. There were some elements that I could incorporate in a kindergarten class. however it was interesting and I learnt a few things at the end that it made me think twice about hoe we integrated games in kindergarten. in kindergarten they are lots of games and hands on in order for them to learn. I am glad that the word 'fun' is mention because in my class and as a teacher I like to have fun.

Yes I have filled the evaluation and I found the bonus level. It was great

Have you filled in the evaluation? Have you found the bonus level content?
